Feb 21 - Workshop: Painting "outside the box"

Updated: Jul 15, 2022

With Kathryn Murray

Turn a piece of tissue paper into an almost-finished piece of art, or use it for a later collage effort. Learn techniques to paint on tissue and then apply bits of painted tissue later to another work. Perhaps apply the full piece of tissue paper to watercolor paper or even to canvas. Adding a bit of extra collage can make a stronger statement depending on your original painting.

We'll start with doing a couple of tissue paper pieces just to get a sense of how working with that paper feels. After lunch, we'll see if our compositions hold up on their own or if they should be combined with other processes that I've used to jazz things up. Really though, this is about techniques and not about instant results... it is to get a feel for some processes I use and then you can take these with you for future explorations.

Call Workshop Co-ordinater Connie Canby at 540-454-0524 or Artists' Alliance at Jarrett Thor Galleries, 804-224-7200

Beyond tissue paper work, we'll explore a bit of aggressive abstraction with watercolor paper. We'll also see if we can use our collage to strengthen the watercolor piece. You should bring some supplies (list will be provided) and there will be a bunch of things to use that I will bring as well. Please bring lunch with you.
